Bow Warriors
Hey guys. I'm tempted to mess with bows and warriors, and wanted to hear what you guys think. Simply put, here are two skills I think are very notable in creating a bow warriors:
+
Does anyone know if Strength + a Hornbow + SA/PA stack? Along with Judge's Insight? For 55% armor penetration?
My idea was to give a warrior some sort of high energy set so that he has 30 energy instead of 10, and to create a chain of SA + PA +Focused Shot + Flourish. Such should use 30 energy in total, but Flourish will recharge 7energyXskills recharging. Focused shot will cause ALL your attack skills to be recharging, so Flourish will restore all of your energy!
So as long as you have 10 energy, you will be able to always activate flourish and regain your 30!!!
Unfortunately, as Flourish as a recharge of 8, you must use your skills intelligently during their downtime.
For an IAs, I would think Flail is good even without a cancel stance if you're h/hing because you have bow range and wouldn't need to move much anyways. But the upside to this is that Flail does not use energy. If you go with a pug, you can take rush as a cancel stance.
What do you guys think? Particularly, it would be useful to know if the 55% armor pen works?

Armor Pentration doesn't stack that way, afaik. There is certain rules and such, I don't know the exact workings, but you can not go that high in AP. (I tried it like 2-3 years ago) Strength, for example, is absolute as I recall, meaning it ignores skills and other effects. Essentially, if you use sundering attack with Strength, Strength will not affect Sundering Attack, as sundering attack offers the highest AP. (Similar to Armor Stacking) Every skill stacks differently and I'm fairly sure there is a thread on guru about it somewhere.
Also, the build would definatly work, question is: "Would it be usefull". Anwser: Definatly not more usefull than a W/D scythe or 100b.
Fun to toy around with, but bows in general are trash in PvE...

Use your search-fu, young padawan. At 15 str, you'd have 45% AP on your attack skills.

3 x 7 = 21 < 30
It takes 13.5 seconds to regen those 9e. You may take another attack that you may or may not use to get the e gain to 28, but Flourish's recharge is definitely a problem as you already know.
Overall, Warrior's Endurance > Flourish. And tbh, turret bow rangers are already on the low-end of physical damage, a bow warrior is bound to be on the "erm.. you're a what?" sort of build no matter how hard you try.

How about:
Volley
Needling Shot
D Shot
Focused Shot
Flourish [E]
(Optional)
Flail
"SY!"
Usage:
1. If against a mob, spam Volley until out of energy, use Focused Shot followed by Flourish to regain energy. Repeat.
2. If against a boss or tough foe, spam Needling Shot (when under 50% health) until out of energy, use Focused Shot followed by Flourish to regain energy. Repeat.
3. Use D Shot to 'rupt.

Hornbows have the lowest fire rate of all bows (2.7s) so even with a 33% IAS there will be a significant disadvantage. You will have to consider the pros and cons of the extra AP vs this.
Usually primary rangers go for flatbows + preparation or spirit that will take care of the flatbow's problems (high arc) and retain the fast fire rate and very good range; or for recurves for interrupting (smallest flight time).
As a warrior, your armor is extremely high so this introduces the possibility of going into semi-close range and actually using a shortbow, which is not something many primary rangers use very often.
BTW here's a comparison of bow types:
bow | rate | range | flight | arc | other | recurve | 2.4s | 1.20 | 0.40s | low | | longbow | 2.4s | 1.35 | 0.59s | medium | | hornbow | 2.7s | 1.20 | 0.59s | medium | 10% AP | flatbow | 2.0s | 1.35 | 0.88s | high | | shortbow | 2.0s | 1.00 | 0.59s | medium | |
As for the idea itself, I'm not so sure. It's a [quite] different style of play. The warrior was built for getting up close and personal with enemies, whereas bows are about keeping the distance. I don't see much synergy. But I'll keep an open mind and an eye on this thread, I like unusual combinations/ideas.
